    Kung-Fu

    What is Chinese Kung-Fu Wu-Su?

In direct translation, Kung Fu (or “Gong Fu”) is a colloquialism of China defined as any “discipline technique or skill”, and also loosely translates to “hardworking man or women”. Wu Su directly translates to “martial arts”. As a whole, Chinese Kung Fu Wu Su is a self-defense system fighting with or without weapons.

Contrary to the popular belief that all martial arts “are the same”, there are major differences that distinguish Kung Fu from other martial arts systems. Kung Fu is the great grandfather and oldest of the martial arts, dating back 6,000 years to the time of the first emperor of China, the Yellow Emperor – Huang Di. There are over 200 styles of Kung Fu, both Hard and Soft/ Internal and External, and is composed of Northern (Legs) and Southern (Hands) styles. It contains many systems of Self-Defense Techniques, Forms, Fighting, and Discipline Techniques, for conditioning, there are numerous exercises to develop strength, speed, flexibility, endurance, and concentration among other skills.

The Purpose of Kung Fu is not to harm others, but to defend and heal one’s self. It contains many systems of Health Techniques including massage, nature’s way, breathing, mediation, diet, stress management, and most importantly, longevity. These Health Techniques among others have served as a monumental stepping stone for the eastern medicine of today.

Kung Fu is not only physically demanding, but it also requires mental stamina. Because of the honorable qualities and exceptional character earned through dedicated training, Chinese Kung-Fu should not be regarded only as a martial art, but as a way of life.
